The preveious chest films demonstrate the dramatic reduction in bulla size, which may occur following an inflammatory process within the bulla. However the more intriguing question is - did the loss of this bulla have benefit for the patient? In 1997 Lamb and Devereauex (2) reorted the results of pulmonary function testing and arterial blood gas sampling of two patients who underwent similar “inflammatory auto-bullectomies.”
